About us

Built for the generation currently responsible for everybody.

The ParentPivot Playbook was created for adults who suddenly find themselves coordinating parents, kids, careers, households, and healthcare—with no manual and very little free time.

Our approach is warm, practical, direct, and occasionally funny. We make educational and organizational tools that help you capture information, prepare better questions, share responsibilities, and build a routine that can last.

A personal story from Sharon Manker

I didn't plan to become a caregiver. Life had other plans.

When my mother had a heart attack, our lives changed almost overnight.

My mother had always been fiercely independent. She handled her own business, made her own decisions, paid her own bills, and lived her life on her terms.

Then suddenly, I was the one people were looking to for answers.

And I had questions. A LOT of questions.

  • Where are her bills?
  • When are they due?
  • Who are these people listed on her accounts?
  • What insurance does she have?
  • Why is she taking this medication?
  • Who prescribed that one?
  • When is the next doctor's appointment?
  • Who am I supposed to call about this?
  • What does that paperwork mean?

And perhaps the biggest question of all: how am I supposed to know any of this?!

There was no orientation. No onboarding. No neatly organized binder waiting for me with a sticky note that said, “Here you go, Sharon. Everything you'll need is right here.”

I was learning in real time.

Then those old dusty documents became priceless

Years earlier, my mother and I had taken care of something that didn't seem particularly urgent at the time: she had put legal documents in place, including a power of attorney and healthcare directive.

Thank goodness we did.

Those old, dusty, notarized documents suddenly became some of the most important papers I owned.

Without the appropriate documentation, there were situations where organizations and professionals could not simply give me information or allow me to act on my mother's behalf just because I was her daughter.

That experience taught me something I wish more families discussed before a crisis: understand what legal and healthcare planning documents may be appropriate for your family, and consider discussing them with qualified legal and healthcare professionals while your loved ones can actively participate in those decisions.

Don't wait for the emergency to start asking where everything is.

Meanwhile, regular life didn't stop

Here's the other part of caregiving we don't talk about enough.

I didn't stop being everything else because my mother needed me.

  • 01Still a wife.
  • 02Still raising teenagers.
  • 03Still working.
  • 04Still managing a household.
  • 05Still handling deadlines, responsibilities, relationships, and all the ordinary things life expects from us.

Except now I was also helping manage another adult's life.

That's when I truly understood the term Sandwich Generation.

You're raising the next generation while caring for the generation that raised you—and somehow you're standing in the middle trying to hold the whole sandwich together.

Welcome to Gen X caregiving. Apparently, we're the adults now.

Why I created this

The ParentPivot Playbook™ was born from navigating this chaos in real life.

I started creating the checklists, questions, trackers, and systems I desperately needed because I couldn't keep everything in my head.

  • What medications?
  • Which appointment?
  • Which doctor?
  • What bill?
  • Who called?
  • What did they say?
  • What happens next?

Eventually, I realized something:

If I was struggling to figure this out, there had to be thousands of other sons and daughters sitting at kitchen tables surrounded by paperwork asking exactly the same questions.

So I turned what I learned into something another family could actually use.

This isn't about having all the answers.

It's about helping you get organized enough to start asking the right questions, capture important information, share responsibilities, and make an overwhelming transition a little more manageable.

I can't remove the emotional weight of caring for someone you love.

But maybe I can spare you some of the confusion I experienced trying to figure out everything from scratch.

If this system helps you find one document faster, walk into one appointment better prepared, have one overdue conversation with your family, or feel a little less overwhelmed by everything suddenly sitting on your shoulders, then creating it was worth it.

From one Gen Xer figuring it out to another—you don't need to know everything on Day One. You just need somewhere to start.
